Mesial

Mesial Guelph

In dentistry, "mesial" describes the surface of a tooth that faces the front of your mouth, toward the center line between your two front teeth. Every tooth has multiple surfaces, and the mesial surface is important for how your teeth fit together and work when you bite and chew.

Other tooth surfaces include:

  • Distal: The surface facing the back of your mouth.
  • Occlusal: The chewing surface on the top of your teeth.
  • Buccal or Facial: The surface facing your cheeks or lips.
  • Lingual: The surface facing your tongue.

Understanding these surfaces helps you follow dental care instructions, understand fillings, crowns, and clean your teeth more effectively. It also helps your dentist explain treatment plans more clearly.

If you have questions about mesial surfaces, other parts of your teeth, or any dental concerns, contact Dr. Jarek Foksa at Downtown Dentistry by calling (519) 821-7640. We are located at 55 Cork St. E., Suite 304 in Guelph, ON.
